ISU athletics

ISU has struggled to produce wins on a consistent basis for the past twenty years. Occasionally one of their teams will rise to the top of the league but it is often short lived. In 2002 the football team tied for first in the conference and a few years later they were forced to fire the coach for losing.
The fan base in Pocatello is often criticised for not supporting the sports programs enough. The reality is that the fans are some of the most loyal supporters around. There is a solid base of fans that have helped ISU stay in the middle of the pack for attendance for schools of their level across the nation. The remarkable thing is that these fans continue to come back despite the obvious lack of progress on the playing field.
The bottom line is ISU is doing fine. They have a solid base and they are located in an area full of band wagon jumpers who are itching at the chance to jump on the ISU band wagon. The key is getting the wagon rolling with a few good seasons in the dome.

in my opinion isu athletics is a joke and so are there fans. not only is there little to no fan support the only sports on campus that win are womens soccer and basketball and from the games i have attended less than a 1000 people show up to both. As for the football and mens basketball teams if our head coaches and AD for that matter tried to put a winning team on the field/court instead of trying to get new facilities built maybe the program would be in better shape. but compared to the rest of the big sky isu will always be at the bottom untill they rearrange their prioties.

I like the fact we all have different opinions and are coming from different places and have different degrees of loyalty to ISU athletics. After reading Jason's comments I had to wonder if anything can turn around ISU athletics? I really haven't been here that long to really answer that question. New facilities cant be totally the answer as USC has horrible football facilities yet they have been a powerhouse the last decade. And say the facilities are built will be enough to draw in the athletes needed to change things. And then who is going to foot the bill? We're off to a great start and making comments that lead to the tough questions. I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Jason, you need to go back to Tijuana north and take a look at things there. The clippers left you and soon the chargers will follow them to Los Angeles. It must be a requirement to wear USC or UCLA apparel to SDSU games. I was at QUALCOMM stadium when they set the attendance record for a SDSU football game. There were empty seats, and empty sections, throughout the stadium. The worst thing about this record setting crowd was that the majority weren't there to support the team at all. The crowd was there for the firework show following the game. Get used to cheering for the LA Chargers. The chargers have given the city enough chances already. At least our city leaders know the value of sporting events and are hosting a special election to save the dome.

ISU is actually in an enviable position for attendance.

phil, yes i know i need to move back because one i am sick of pocatello and two i am sick of living in a town with no fan loyalties toward the teams they do have.as for the clippers leaving for LA it was the owners choice to leave and what have they done since they moved nothing. and the chargers will never leave san diego especially not to go to smell a. and finally i am saying that the athletic program is a joke because there priorities are backward but as long as i am a student and living in pocatello i will support all the athletic programs it's just sad to see the program where it is when we could look at montana for instance that is a similar size town and there fans are some of the best i've seen in 1aa athletics.

I agree, Montana has the same size of a town and yet football games create a commotion there every week during the season. Montana even seemed to have a lot more loyal fans attend the game here at ISU than actual ISU fans. I have also been to a few local high school football games and it seems to me that there are about the same number of fans in Holt arena if not more for those games then those of our very own ISU team.
